Description

Witch Hat Cookies are a fun and festive Halloween treat, perfect for parties or just a spooky baking project. These easy-to-make cookies are shaped like witch hats and can be decorated to look extra magical!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Black sanding sugar or black frosting for decorating
  • Orange or purple candies (optional, for embellishment)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. This will make it easier to handle.
  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness.
  8. Using a witch hat cookie cutter (or a round cutter for the brim and a triangle cutter for the cone, then assemble), cut out your hat shapes.
  9. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
  10. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Once cooled, decorate the cookies. Dip the tops in black sanding sugar or spread with black frosting. Add any optional embellishments like orange or purple candies for extra flair.

Notes

  • For a smoother cone shape, you can gently press the top of the hat dough down before baking.
  • Get creative with your decorations! Use different colored frostings, edible glitter, or sprinkles to make each hat unique.
  • These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
