Description

Whip up these adorable Witch Hat Cake Pops for a magical Halloween treat! They’re surprisingly easy to make and are sure to be a hit at any spooky celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare (eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 (16 ounce) container chocolate frosting
  • 1 (12 ounce) package black candy melts
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup green candy melts
  • 1/4 cup purple candy melts
  • Green and purple edible glitter
  • Orange and yellow sprinkles
  • Black edible marker

Instructions

  1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions and bake in a 9×13 inch pan. Let cool completely.
  2. Crumble the cooled cake into a large bowl. Add about 1 cup of chocolate frosting and mix until well combined and the mixture holds its shape when pressed.
  3. Roll the cake mixture into 1-inch balls. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Melt the black candy melts with vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  5. Dip the chilled cake balls into the melted black candy coating, ensuring they are fully covered. Let excess drip off. Place back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. While the black coating is still wet, insert a pretzel stick into the top of each cake pop to create the hat’s cone.
  7. Melt the green candy melts with 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening until smooth.
  8. Once the black coating has set, drizzle the melted green candy over the top of the cake pops to form the brim of the witch’s hat.
  9. Melt the purple candy melts with 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the melted purple candy over the green brim to add a contrasting color.
  11. While the green and purple candy melts are still wet, sprinkle with edible glitter and edible sprinkles.
  12. Once completely dry, use the black edible marker to draw a buckle or other decorations on the hat brim.

Notes

  • You can use any flavor of cake mix you prefer.
  • Ensure the cake mixture is firm enough to roll into balls. If it’s too crumbly, add more frosting. If too sticky, add a bit more cake crumbs.
  • For a smoother coating, you can add a little more vegetable shortening to the candy melts.
  • Allow each layer of candy melt to set before adding the next for clean lines.
