Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed watermelon, seeds removed
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (from about 2 limes)
  • 24 tablespoons granulated sugar or agave nectar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Lime slices and mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Watermelon: In a blender, combine the cubed watermelon and mint leaves. Blend until completely smooth.
  2. Strain the Mixture: Pour the watermelon mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher or container to remove any pulp or seeds.
  3. Add Lime Juice and Sweetener: Stir in the lime juice and sugar (or agave nectar). Start with 2 tablespoons of sugar and add more to taste, depending on the sweetness of your watermelon.
  4. Add Water: Pour in the cold water and stir well to combine.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve cold, over ice, and garnish with lime slices and mint sprigs, if desired.

Notes

  • For a stronger mint flavor, you can muddle the mint leaves with the sugar and lime juice before adding the watermelon.
