Ingredients

  • 68 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
  3. Pour the pear mixture into a 9-inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pears.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender and bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For a crispier topping, you can add a handful of chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the crumble mixture.
  • If your pears aren’t very sweet, you can add a tablespoon or two of sugar to the pear filling.
