Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crumble Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat.
- Pour the pear mixture into a 9-inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pears.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
- For a crispier topping, you can add a handful of chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the crumble mixture.
- If your pears aren’t very sweet, you can add a tablespoon or two of sugar to the pear filling.
- This crumble is best served warm, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
