Description

These delightful Pear Cookies are a perfect blend of tender pears, warm spices, and a hint of sweetness, making them an ideal treat for any occasion. Their soft, chewy texture and comforting aroma will surely become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup finely chopped ripe pears (about 1 medium pear), peeled and cored
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped pears and nuts (if using).
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Flatten each cookie slightly with the bottom of a glass or your hand.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar, if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure your pears are ripe but firm to avoid a mushy cookie.
  • For a chewier cookie, slightly underbake them.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • These cookies freeze well. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet until frozen, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months.
