- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 cups fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and diced
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk and the peaches.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the diced peaches.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts, if desired.
- Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For best results, use ripe but firm peaches.
- You can substitute Greek yogurt for buttermilk.
- To prevent the peaches from sinking to the bottom, toss them lightly with a tablespoon of flour before adding them to the batter.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
