Description

This moist and flavorful peach bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat any time of day. Packed with fresh peaches and warm spices, it’s a delightful way to enjoy the summer harvest.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk and the peaches.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the diced peaches.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts, if desired.
  8. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For best results, use ripe but firm peaches.
  • You can substitute Greek yogurt for buttermilk.
  • To prevent the peaches from sinking to the bottom, toss them lightly with a tablespoon of flour before adding them to the batter.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
