Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz) white cake mix
- Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
- Red and blue sprinkles or fresh berries for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Prepare the cake mix according to the box directions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for the time specified on the box, usually 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
- Using a wooden spoon handle or a straw, poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1 inch apart.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to allow the milk to soak in and the cake to cool completely.
- Frost the cake with whipped topping.
- Decorate the cake with red and blue sprinkles, or fresh berries arranged in a patriotic design.
- Slice and serve cold.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a vanilla cake mix.
- Feel free to experiment with different toppings like fresh strawberries and blueberries.
- You can make this cake a day ahead, which actually allows the flavors to meld even better.
