Description
Celebrate Labor Day with these rich, creamy chocolate truffles. A no-bake dessert that’s perfect for a relaxed holiday gathering. Rolled in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or festive sprinkles, they’re an easy indulgence.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225 g) high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
- ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
- For coating: unsweetened cocoa powder, finely chopped toasted almonds, red/white/blue sprinkles, or shredded coconut
Instructions
- Place the chopped chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl. Set aside.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer (do not boil). Pour the hot cream over the chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir gently until smooth and fully melted.
- Add the softened butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until the butter is incorporated and the mixture is glossy. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a small cookie scoop or two teaspoons, portion the chilled truffle mixture into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball between your palms to form a smooth sphere.
- Prepare your coatings in separate shallow bowls. Roll each truffle in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, sprinkles, or coconut until evenly coated. Return to the parchment-lined sheet.
- Refrigerate truffles for at least 30 minutes to set. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Notes
- For a vegan version, use dairy-free dark chocolate and replace heavy cream with full-fat coconut cream. Omit butter or use a vegan butter substitute.
- If the truffle mixture becomes too soft while rolling, chill it again for 10–15 minutes.
- Add a drop of peppermint or orange extract for a flavor twist.
- Labor Day theme: roll some truffles in red, white, and blue sprinkles or a mix of crushed pretzels and white chocolate drizzle.
