Description

This Labor Day Flag Cake is a show-stopping dessert that’s surprisingly easy to make. With its vibrant red, white, and blue design, it’s the perfect centerpiece for your holiday celebration. This cake is not only delicious but also a fun and festive way to celebrate the holiday.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 (16 ounce) container vanilla frosting
  • Red food coloring gel
  • Blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the cake batter according to the box instructions.
  2. Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into a 9×13 inch baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
  3. Frost the Cake: Divide the vanilla frosting into two bowls. In one bowl, add red food coloring gel and mix until you achieve your desired red shade. Leave the other bowl white.
  4. Assemble the Flag: Frost the cake with the white frosting, covering the entire surface.
  5. Create the Stripes: Use the red frosting to create horizontal stripes on the cake, leaving space between each stripe.
  6. Add the Blue Square: In the top left corner, use the remaining white frosting to create a square.
  7. Add the Berries: Fill the blue square with blueberries. Arrange the sliced strawberries in the red stripes.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve your Labor Day Flag Cake. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade buttercream frosting.
  • You can adapt the size of the cake to fit your needs. A round cake can also be decorated as a flag.
  • Feel free to add other berries like raspberries or blackberries.
