Description

These decadent chocolate cookies are filled with a creamy, sweet filling and decorated with a spooky spiderweb design. Perfect for Halloween parties and trick-or-treaters!

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cookies:
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • For the Cream Cheese Filling:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Spiderweb Decoration:
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or shortening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookie Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  3. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Beat in the heavy cream and vanilla extract until well combined and creamy. Transfer to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off.
  5. Assemble the Cookies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of cookie dough and flatten it slightly in your palm. Place about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese filling in the center.
  7. Carefully wrap the cookie dough around the filling, ensuring it’s completely enclosed. Gently roll into a ball.
  8. Place the dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake the Cookies: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Decorate the Spiderwebs: Once the cookies are completely cool, melt the white chocolate chips with the vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  11. Transfer the melted white chocolate to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a very small corner snipped off.
  12. Pipe concentric circles of white chocolate onto the top of each cookie, starting from the center and working outwards.
  13. Using a toothpick, drag lines from the center outwards through the white chocolate circles to create a spiderweb effect. Let the chocolate set before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use good quality cocoa powder.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a sturdy zip-top bag.
  • The cream cheese filling can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate chips for varied flavors!
