Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (full-fat or non-fat)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the Greek yogurt until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.
