- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan.
- In a separate bowl, toss sliced strawberries with 1/4 cup sugar.
- Arrange strawberries over the batter.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream until simmering. Pour over the cake and strawberries.
Notes
- For a tangier flavor, add a tablespoon of lemon juice to the strawberry mixture.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Garnish with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
