Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and granulated sugar. Toss to coat.
  3. In a separate bowl, prepare the crumble topping: combine the cold butter, brown sugar, flour, and salt. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared springform pan.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before removing the sides.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the apple mixture.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
  • Leftover cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
