Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Heat heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
