Ingredients
Scale
- For the Cupcakes:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
- For the Cinnamon Swirl:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (optional, for thinning)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Create the Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir until well combined.
- Assemble and Bake: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of batter into each muffin liner. Dollop about 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Swirl gently with a toothpick or skewer to create a marbled effect. Fill liners about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: In a large bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and softened butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until well combined and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Frost the Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
Notes
- For an extra burst of cinnamon flavor, you can sprinkle a little extra cinnamon sugar on top of the frosting.
- These cupcakes are best enjoyed within 2-3 days and should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Ensure all ingredients for the frosting are at room temperature for the smoothest texture.
