- ½ cup fresh strawberries, pureed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- For Garnish:
- 1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- Make the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Gradually add the boiling water and mix until combined. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- Make the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth.
- Add the strawberry puree, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until light and fluffy.
- Assemble the Cake: Once the cake is completely cool, frost it with the strawberry frosting.
- Arrange the sliced strawberries on top of the frosting.
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
