Ingredients
- For the Crust:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed - For the Filling:
1 cup packed light brown sugar
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups chopped pecans
¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Make the Crust: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the crust for 15-18 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Filling: While the crust bakes, whisk together brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt in a large bowl until well combined.
- Stir in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
- Pour the filling evenly over the slightly cooled crust.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is mostly set but still slightly gooey.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For cleaner cuts, refrigerate the bars for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
- You can add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top before baking for an extra flavor boost.
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
