Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
- Ingredients called for on the cake mix box (eggs, oil, water)
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the box directions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for the time specified on the box, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before poking holes all over the top with the handle of a wooden spoon or a fork.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the peanut butter mixture evenly over the top of the cake, making sure it fills the holes.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes to allow the peanut butter filling to set.
- Make the peanut butter frosting: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, beat together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture until combined.
- Frost the cake with the peanut butter frosting.
- Make the chocolate ganache: In a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (or in the microwave), melt the chocolate chips and butter, stirring until smooth.
- Drizzle the chocolate ganache over the frosted cake.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cake mix.
- You can add chopped peanuts or peanut butter cups on top of the frosting for extra texture and flavor.
- Store leftover cake in the refrigerator.
