Description

This decadent Chocolate Peanut Butter Poke Cake is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! Moist chocolate cake is infused with a rich peanut butter filling, then topped with a creamy peanut butter frosting and a drizzle of chocolate ganache. It’s the ultimate combination of chocolate and peanut butter flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients called for on the cake mix box (eggs, oil, water)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the box directions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for the time specified on the box, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before poking holes all over the top with the handle of a wooden spoon or a fork.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Pour the peanut butter mixture evenly over the top of the cake, making sure it fills the holes.
  6. Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes to allow the peanut butter filling to set.
  7. Make the peanut butter frosting: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, beat together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture until combined.
  8. Frost the cake with the peanut butter frosting.
  9. Make the chocolate ganache: In a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (or in the microwave), melt the chocolate chips and butter, stirring until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the chocolate ganache over the frosted cake.
  11. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cake mix.
  • You can add chopped peanuts or peanut butter cups on top of the frosting for extra texture and flavor.
  • Store leftover cake in the refrigerator.
