Description

Indulge in these decadent Chocolate Cake Truffle Balls, the perfect bite-sized treat. Made with moist chocolate cake, rich ganache, and your favorite toppings, they’re surprisingly easy to make and utterly irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the cake mix box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional toppings: sprinkles, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, shredded coconut

Instructions

  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the package directions. Let the cake cool completely.
  2. Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl.
  3. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it simmers.
  4. Remove the cream from the heat and pour it over the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 1 minute, then stir until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth (ganache).
  5. Pour about half of the ganache over the crumbled cake. Mix until well combined. You may not need all the ganache, add more until it holds together.
  6. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Refrigerate the truffle balls for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  8. While the truffle balls are chilling, prepare your optional toppings.
  9. Once the truffle balls are firm, dip them in the remaining ganache (you can re-melt if needed) or roll them in your chosen toppings.
  10. Return the truffle balls to the baking sheet and refrigerate for another 30 minutes to allow the coating to set.
  11. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
  • You can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the ganache for extra flavor.
  • These truffle balls can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Feel free to experiment with different cake flavors and toppings!
