Description

This easy Cherry Cobbler recipe is a classic dessert, perfect for using fresh or frozen cherries. It features a sweet, bubbly cherry filling topped with a golden, biscuit-like crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh or frozen cherries, pitted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Turbinado sugar, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cherries, 1 cup sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and almond extract (if using). Stir gently to combine.
  3. Pour the cherry mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in the milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the cherry mixture.
  8. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar, if desired.
  9. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a thicker filling, you can add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch.
  • If using frozen cherries, do not thaw them before using.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cherry filling for extra flavor.
  • Leftover cobbler can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
