Description

A comforting and easy caramel apple crisp recipe with a buttery, crumbly topping and sweet, tender apples. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Cut in 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold, unsalted butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the caramel-coated apples.
  5. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  6. Let the caramel apple crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. It’s delicious served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumb topping.
  • If your apples are very tart, you may want to increase the granulated sugar in the apple mixture slightly.
  • Ensure the butter for the topping is cold to achieve the best crumbly texture.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
