Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • For the Cookie Layer:
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownie Batter: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Prepare the Cookie Dough: In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  7. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  9. Combine and Bake: Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough evenly over the brownie batter. You can gently press the cookie dough into the brownie batter if desired.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the brownies are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  11. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of espresso powder to the brownie batter.
  • You can use a variety of chocolate chips, such as semi-sweet, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate.
