Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 45 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water, plus more to taste
  • Lemon slices and fresh blackberries, for garnish (optional)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the Blackberry Syrup: In a saucepan, combine the blackberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the blackberries release their juices (about 5-7 minutes).
  2. Strain the Syrup: Remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding the solids.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large pitcher, combine the blackberry syrup, lemon juice, and 4 cups of cold water. Stir well to combine.
  4. Taste and Adjust: Taste the lemonade and add more water or sugar to your liking. If it’s too tart, add more sugar or simple syrup. If it’s too sweet, add more lemon juice or water.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the blackberry lemonade over the ice. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh blackberries, if desired.
  6. Enjoy! Serve immediately and enjoy this refreshing drink.

Notes

  • For a smoother lemonade, strain the blackberry syrup through a cheesecloth.
  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar or simple syrup.
  • If you want to make it ahead of time, prepare the syrup and lemon juice separately and combine them just before serving.
  • For a sparkling lemonade, add some club soda or sparkling water.
