- For the Cake:

- For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan.
- Make the Apple Crumble: In a medium bowl, combine diced apples, flour, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the cake batter.
- Bake: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
- Make the Frosting: While the cake cools, make the frosting. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until creamy. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Assemble: Once the cake is completely cooled, frost with the cream cheese frosting.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use brown sugar in the cake batter.
- You can add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple crumble for extra warmth.
