Description

These delightful Apple Cinnamon Dessert Cups are the perfect individual treat, combining warm spiced apples with a crumble topping for a comforting and easy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Gala), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease 4 ramekins or oven-safe cups.
  2. In a medium skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are slightly softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. While the apples are cooking, prepare the crumble topping. In a small bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter pieces and use your fingertips or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Divide the cooked apple mixture evenly among the prepared ramekins.
  5. Crumble the topping mixture evenly over the apples in each ramekin.
  6. Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • You can prepare the apple filling and crumble topping ahead of time and assemble just before baking.
  • For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble topping.
  • Adjust spices to your preference. A pinch of ground ginger can also be a nice addition.
