Description

A moist and flavorful apple cinnamon cake, perfect for any occasion. This cake combines the warmth of cinnamon with the sweetness of apples for a delightful dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if using).
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
  • You can add a simple glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
