Description
Golden, crispy, and tender apple cider fritters, infused with warm spices and a hint of sweetness. Perfect for a cozy autumn breakfast or a delightful dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup apple cider
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup diced apple (about 1 medium apple), peeled or unpeeled
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar or glaze ingredients (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, apple cider, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven, heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter (about 2 tablespoons each) into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet to drain any excess oil.
- While the fritters are still warm, you can dust them with powdered sugar or drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and a little milk or apple cider.
Notes
- For best results, ensure your oil is at the correct temperature. Too hot, and the outside will burn before the inside cooks. Too cool, and the fritters will be greasy.
- You can adjust the spices to your preference. A pinch of nutmeg or allspice is also delicious.
- Serve warm for the ultimate experience.
